ISO/TC 215 Task Force on Telehealth and Virtual Care Standards

ISO has established a taskforce on telehealth and virtual care (TVC) standards which will undertake the following activities:

  1. Identify scope and initiate revision of ISO 13131:2021 Health informatics – Telehealth services — Quality planning guidelines:
    a. identify and report on stakeholder needs for update of ISO 13131; and
  2. Confirm needs and propose relevant standards work to support conformity assessment of TVC services:
    a. identify and report on stakeholder needs for development of one or more companion standards to ISO 13131 to support conformity assessment of TVC services that is appropriate to the diversity of such services; and
  3. Based on a landscape review, and current or planned work in ISO technical committees, assess potential needs for additional standards or specifications to support delivery of high quality TVC services:

a. assess and keep ISO/TC 215 informed of potential requirements for additional standards or specifications needed to support delivery of quality TVC services in a complex, rapidly changing environment;
b. develop and maintain a roadmap for TC 215 activities to meet the identified requirements.

  1. Identify how ISO (and IEC) can better support stakeholders using ISO/IEC standards in establishing and delivering quality TVC services:
    a. determine how ISO stakeholders can be better supported when navigating/using a complex set of standards for quality and risk management, medical devices and health informatics relevant to the implementation of TVC services.
